The Heat had a very difficult season last year. They did not make it the playoffs 12 months after reaching and almost winning the NBA Finals. It was a frustrating campaign for the franchise, especially after Chris Bosh was lost for the season with blood clot on one of his lungs. On the contrary, the Heat made favorable decisions like the acquisition of point-guard Goran Dragic after a trade with the Phoenix Suns and also found the emergence of their center, Hassan Whiteside. Dragic was able to quickly adapt to life in Miami and as a result, he was re-signed by the franchise during the summer.
The Heat managed to snatch some good players signing Gerald Green and Amare Stoudemire, providing a lot of scoring and depth on the bench. It’s amazing how the Heat were able to sign both players for the minimum salary, given the fact how good role players they are especially Green. The highflyer had an amazing year with the Suns last season and will definitely receive a lot of playing time and it would not be a surprise if he is nominated for the Sixth Man of the Year Award. Stoudemire also provides a very good scoring option off the bench.
The Heat also re-signed Dwyane Wade and Luol Deng putting them among the best teams in the East. The emergence of Hassan Whiteside will also be a thing to watch, given how well he performed last season. He was a double-double machine all year long and if he continues to improve at this pace, the Heat will undeniably have one of the best centers in the league.
All in all, the Heat have the potential to actually challenge the Cavaliers in the playoffs, but only if their healthy. Last season, the Heat had a lot of problems with injuries, as Bosh, McRoberts and Wade had all kinds of problems and that was the main reason the team failed to make the playoffs. However, with the Heat improving their roster this much, the Eastern Conference playoff picture is starting to look quite interesting. They definitely would not be as good as they were with LeBron James in the squad, but it looks like Miami has already overcome the fact that the King left them.
