The Minnesota Timberwolves are NBA’s most promising future powerhouse.
The last couple of seasons have not been easy Minnesota with Kevin Love choosing to leave the team, Ricky Rubio constantly having health problems and the franchise’s inability to attract elite players. However, there is hope that things may start to improve after the upcoming season, as Minnesota is starting to assemble a talented squad. The Timberwolves already had some promising youngsters last season in the face of Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine, but they were able to add one more potential star from the 2015 draft. His name is Karl-Anthony Towns and he has the potential to be the best young center in the NBA. Furthermore, the organization drafted a very promising young point-guard at number 24 and his name is Tyus Jones. He was a starter in Duke and at least on paper, he looks ready for the NBA. Whether that is true, we’ll be able to see after a few months.
The Timberwolves managed to re-sign Kevin Garnett to a two-year deal, which is definitely a great success, not because of what KG can do on the court, but because he is the perfect mentor to all the young guys in Minnesota. It is an interesting fact that when the Big Ticket entered the NBA, a lot of his teammates were not even born. A guy like him is always a great asset. We all know how without the right guidance, a lot of prospects fail to develop and waste their talents, just because there wasn’t anyone to help them when they have been trouble. Such is current Timberwolves, Anthony Bennett. He had a decent season last year and if he continues to improve, he can become a good NBA player and prove all his doubters wrong.
The Timberwolves did not make a lot of changes during the summer and chose to improve through the draft, which was definitely the right way to go. They added Andre Miller to serve as backup for Ricky Rubio, in case the Spaniard injures himself once again. However, if Rubio stays healthy and finds a way to regain his form, the Timberwolves will be a very interesting team to watch – they have a lot of young legs on the roster, which gives them a lot of opportunities on the fast break.
As a conclusion, t is very unlikely that the Timberwolves will finish among the top eight teams in the Western Conference in the next campaign. However, Minnesota looks like a franchise on the rise and next season could be the beginning of something amazing. The fact that the Wolves don’t have any superstars on the roster, will give the youngsters an opportunity to receive a lot of playing time and develop their games. Even though they may once again finish at the bottom of the West next year, if everything goes well Minnesota could be a perennial playoff squad after a couple of seasons.
